What blood runs in your veins

This one was fun if you missed it the other day.

Say hello to heaven

They're calling it the most perfect distillation of capitalism we've ever seen. Police in Clayton County Georgia served an eviction order against the owner of a beauty supply shop last week. After they had dumped the inventory of the store into the parking lot crowds of people showed up to take what was considered abandoned property. Instead dozens of police formed a perimeter around the merchandise and brought in vans full of inmates from a nearby prison to clean it all up and bring it to homeless shelters to distribute. Just kidding they tossed it all in the fucking dump.

"It is important to know that all items are currently being destroyed and unable to be collected" the Lovejoy Police Department said in a video posted to Facebook.

Dozens of armed agents of the state (getting overtime no doubt) working at the behest of a corporate landlord supervising slaves to ensure that nothing can be had that isn't paid for. Except for the labor of inmates in Georgia where the minimum wage is $0.

Just thinking again about this recent Hell World on how inmates in 40+ states are charged for their room and board up to hundreds of dollars a day. And how in many states once they get out they owe for every day of their original sentence not the actual time they served.

There is no ladder
As bad as you think things are, they can, and will, always somehow be worse

A man from New York filed a wrongful death suit against the Disney corporation earlier this year. Jeffrey Piccolo's wife Kanokporn Tangsuan, an NYU doctor, died from a severe allergic reaction after eating at the Disney owned Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant in Florida in 2023. She had repeatedly checked with the restaurant to ensure that none of her food contained dairy or nuts.

In response the company is trying to get the suit tossed out of court because Piccolo had agreed that "any and all disputes with the company would be decided through the use of mandatory, binding, third-party arbitration" when he signed up for a one month trial of Disney+ in 2019.

Law and Crime:

Attorneys for the deceased woman’s estate are, in turn, imploring a judge to reject what they call an “incredible argument.”

They say Disney’s position would mean anyone who signs up for a Disney+ free trial “will have forever waived the right to a jury trial enjoyed by them and any future Estate to which they are associated.”

“As can be seen from the prior sentence, this argument borders on the surreal,” the plaintiffs argued in a 123-page filing on Aug. 2.

Tangsuan had ordered scallops, onion rings, broccoli and corn fritters and I don't know why but reading that detail breaks my fucking heart. She was probably stoked.

People in San Francisco are being woken up overnight and in the early morning by the sounds of cars honking. So far so normal for any city. But the tech capital of the country is obviously not a normal city. In this case it was a parking lot filled with driverless Waymo cars.

"Suddenly the vehicles seemingly become confused and start honking all at each other," ABC 7 News reported.

Cars driving around in circles filled with nothing and honking at no one. You couldn't write a more heavy handed satire of empty tech ghoulishness if you tried. Well you could but you'd have to try a little hard.

A man named Randol White said "he heard it the first time about two weeks ago – he was woken up around 4 a.m. But then it happened again, and again, and I started thinking, well this is an issue."

"Despite the inconvenience, [White said] he's still a fan of the autonomous vehicle company and uses the cars on a regular basis."

The multimillionaire governor of California Gavin Newsom invited a local TV news crew to film him personally stealing the belonging of homeless people and throwing it all in the trash.

Here's another angle of the publicity stunt.

They are you after a couple of bad breaks
The other day I wrote about the fake idea of California that I believe in despite knowing it’s a lie. Today a more realistic look. Paid subscribers can read that one here. All of us were here for a little while and then we were somewhere elseThank you for your
Did you hear about the Echo Park sweep? That was, as you said, this kind of theater. It costs like two million dollars that one night, plus whatever that stupid fence cost. And homelessness has gone up. Taking people’s possessions starts them at zero every time. Getting them new IDs can be impossible. A new birth certificate.

That’s something else that happens if all your possessions are taken. Maybe someone is working their way back, doing their best, and then, whoops, all of a sudden your papers you had stored are thrown in the trash and now you’re fucked.

There was a woman I met who told me she has two years of disability payments in a bank account she can’t access because she has no form of identification. We got started looking for it. I reached out to her city’s registrar, jumped through all their hoops, talked to a thousand people trying to explain that this person is unhoused and couldn't verify their identity a traditional way. Finally someone was like, fine, take it, and we got her birth certificate. The day after we got her birth certificate she was gone for a moment and they threw all her belongings away. I’ve never seen her again. There was nothing for her in that spot anymore. You have to move along and find supplies elsewhere.

Can you blame someone for just saying fuck it.

No.

Fuck it let me start using.

A tweet from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Monday:

"Today we commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. The United States reaffirms our steadfast commitment to respecting international humanitarian law and mitigating suffering in armed conflict. We call on others to do the same."

Another tweet:

"We are fed up, oh world, we are fed up....We are all tired. All the children. All the youth have grown weary. Enough, enough."

"What are the Jews doing to us? And the Arab nations watching us. Does our suffering please them? We are fed up, oh world, we are fed up. And you, you Arabs, I don't know what to say to you. Children are dying under the rubble. Their hands are severed, their legs are torn, their heads are crushed. To every Arab and foreigner that sees us, what blood runs in your veins? From what clay are you made? If your own child faced this would you stay silent? I have one word to say: I will not forgive you. Neither in this life nor the next. And I will ask my Lord not to forgive you either. This is the last word I say to you."

Another tweet:

This isn't nearly as upsetting as any of that other stuff above but man fuck this and fuck this guy and fuck AI and fuck marketers. The whiplash I just experienced from subject line to email text. FUCK YOU. Fuck Oasis too for not reuniting while we're at it.

I believe I mentioned that I've got most of a second book of fiction done. The working title is We're All Fucking Dead but I don't know if they'll let me call it that. Whoever they are. If you're a publisher or an agent who wants to talk about putting it out get in touch buddy.

Here's one short piece from it.

No new word

There was a large bird perched at the top of the tallest tree in your neighborhood surveilling its domain and you two couldn’t agree on whether or not it was a raptor of some kind or just a run of the mill crow. A flock of smaller birds nearby were agitated over its looming and circling and circling closer to it. Caught in a whirlpool of their own panic. You worried for their safety. The big fella darted so swiftly after one of them into the thicket of a closer tree and you said see I told you it's hunting something. It's going to get its ass. You picked up a rock and threw it into the leaves and scared them off. A squirrel that had been minding its own business too. Why did you do that she said and you said I honestly do not know. You started to wonder if you had saved one bird's life or just starved another bigger bird. You thought maybe this is why God doesn’t bother helping us anymore.
